Although you will get a great exchange rate when making your international payments through RationalFX, we do not control the fees and commissions that the recipient's bank can charge for receiving the payment. When banks charge a fee for processing international payments they take this from the money that you are transferring, so the recipient does not get the full amount that you transferred.
To make sure that the recipient gets the total sum that you are transferring, you should make the money transfer with RationalFX, as the funds will be transferred via our Lisbon BES account and we will accept the international payment free of charge. We will then transfer the funds to the recipient's bank, where the funds will be treated as a domestic payment that will not be subject to the same fees as an international payment.
The time it takes for the recipient to receive the funds can be unnecessarily long, as their bank may not be responding to the payment quickly enough or they are holding the funds for investigation as it is an international payment.
However, our new Banco Espirito Santo account will mean that you no longer have to rely on the recipient's bank, as we can transfer the money via our euro account in Lisbon, so the funds will be processed quickly and sent on to the recipient's bank as a domestic payment, so the money will not be subject to the same checks as an international payment.
